Frequently Asked Questions
-
DOES WAXING HURT?
Well, the truth is everyone’s pain threshold is different, so what may be slightly uncomfortable for some is barely noticeable to others, but the pain is tolerable and temporary!
-
HOW LONG DOES MY HAIR HAVE TO BE TO GET WAXED?
Your hair must be at least ¼ of an inch long or about the size of a grain of rice. If the hair is too short there is a chance the wax will not be able to grasp onto the hair to remove it. If the hair is too long your waxing experience may feel very unpleasant.
-
CAN I GET WAXED WHILE PREGNANT?
Getting waxed while pregnant has been proven to be safe. Due to increased hormone levels and an increase in blood flow to your skin your skin may experience more sensitivity and discomfort than usual especially the skin in your genital region. With your doctor’s approval, try taking Ibuprofen or Tylenol at least 30-45 minutes before your service to minimize discomfort.
-
CAN I GET WAXED WHILE ON MY MENSTRUAL CYCLE?
Of course! Keep in mind your skin may be more tender during this time of the month. You will need to wear a tampon to your appointment, or one will be provided to you in order to complete the service successfully.
-
WILL MY HAIR GROW BACK THICKER OR DARKER?
I’ve got good news; waxing does the complete opposite! Staying consistent with your waxing schedule will make your hair grow back thinner. Since the hair is being pulled out from the root the hair follicle is repeatedly being damaged during its growth phase leaving you with more permanent results over time! After just one wax you will notice the hairs grow back thinner, finer and softer. Something to look forward to right!
-
HOW LONG WILL MY WAX LAST?
Depending on the location of your wax and your personal hair growth, waxing should last anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks.
-
CAN I SHAVE IN BETWEEN MY APPOINTMENTS?
This is a big NO-NO! I know it can be tempting to pick up that razor in the shower when you see those pesky in-between-wax hairs but try to resist friend! Shaving in between waxes can throw you off your schedule. Since hair grows in separate cycles interrupting that cycle by shaving can cause some hair follicles to become too short during your next waxing appointment because the wax will not be able to grip the hair. Shaving in between waxes also encourages your hair to grow in quicker and thicker since you’re only cutting the hair above the surface of the skin leaving a blunt tip and stubble which tends to cause irritation and increases your chances of developing ingrown hairs. OUCH!

WHAT KIND OF WAX DO YOU USE?
Here at Bare Femininity I only use hard wax that is easy on the skin but tough on coarse hair because it opens the pores and cinches hair at the follicle’s base for complete removal. This wax is gentle on all skin types and provides a soft pull that reduces pain and sensitivities. It contains Beeswax which comes from the honeycomb of honey bees and it adds a protective layering to protect the skin from damage, it contains Paraffin which is a natural emollient which just means it makes the skin soft and supple. Turmeric is another key ingredient in it which is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties along with it’s natural brightening properties. This wax also contains Sunflower Seed oil which is a natural anti-inflammatory and helps keep your skin hydrated!

WHAT IS A VAJACIAL AND WHEN SHOULD YOU GET ONE?
A vajacial is simply just a facial for your vagina! It is a treatment performed on the vulva of the vagina. It does not deal with the internal vaginal region. A vajacial is a 40-50 min treatment which includes cleansing, a mild exfoliation, extraction of ingrown hairs if needed, the use of high frequency current which generates oxygen in your skin and kills bacteria, followed by a soothing mask tailored to your specific skin concerns, and completed with a moisturizing treatment. The purpose of a vajacial is to help treat, enhance and preserve the vaginal skin. A vajacial can help eliminate or significantly reduce skin issues such as inflammation, hyperpigmentation, scarring, and ingrown hair bumps. Vajacials are recommended at least once a month and is meant to be performed at least 3-5 days after a fresh wax. Who says she doesn’t deserve to be pampered every once in a while?

WHY DO MY PORES BLEED AFTER A WAX?
Pore bleeding or “Pinpoint bleeding” is a common result of waxing and is a sign that the hair was removed successfully from the root. Each hair follicle is attached to a blood vessel that supplies blood to the hair for it to grow. So when the hair is removed, blood may follow.
-
IS IT NORMAL TO GET BUMPS AFTER A WAX?
Yes. When hair is forcefully removed from the root, it causes stress to the surrounding skin. Waxing may cause inflammation and mild bumps especially if your new to waxing.
